Solo Travel

Solo Travelers

Guided vacations. The rise of small group travel has created a wonderful experience for solo travelers.

G Adventures. Most of  trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if you are travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another G Adventures traveler of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement or rarely a mandatory single supplement.

Trafalgar tours offers discounts (up to 100% of the single supplement) on selected tours.

With Intrepid Travel, half of the travelers are solos.Their motto is "Go solo, but not alone." There’s no extra charge when you share a room with someone of the same sex. But if you'd like a little more privacy, a single supplement is available on the majority of our trips (it’s just a small extra charge).

Ocean cruises. While it is still difficult, it is becoming easier to find solo cabins on cruise lines that don’t charge a single traveler double the rate (called the "single supplement"), especially in last minute promotions.  Some cruise lines even have a separate lounge for solo travelers.

The following cruise lines have single rooms (meaning no or reduced single supplement) on some cruises: AmaWaterways, American Queen Steamboat Company, Celebrity Cruises,Costa Cruises,Cunard Line, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruises,Royal Caribbean,UnCruise Adventures

River cruises. A great example is Riviera River Cruises, with many European river cruises. They not only hold several cabins each voyage for solo travelers with no single supplement cost, but also each year they offer several cruises reserved for solo travelers only

One of the biggest changes in travel is the rise of solo women travelers.  Two groups are especially fueling the trend--young women who want to explore the world now and baby boomers who find themselves without traveling companions but still want to experience the joy of travel.

Travel suppliers are responding to the increase.  More women who are planning independent travel are working with travel advisors to make certain they will be as safe and comfortable as possible while still having extraordinary experiences.
