Rio de Janeiro

The capital city of Brazil (the state, not the country), you won’t find yourself wanting things to do. If you travel in late February, there is the world-famous Carnival, celebrating the arrival of Lent, and is the Brazilian equivalent to Mardi Gras. Or you can climb up to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue that stands above the city.

Visit Copacabana beach for the completely off-the-wall New Years Eve party, or just to relax in the sun and play in the waves. If you want to really take in the views, you can ride a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, a massive peak of stone that juts out from the landscape. No matter what your interests are, there is sure to be non-stop fun in Rio de Janeiro.

Famed for the writings and works of Charles Darwin, the Galapagos Islands are often seen as a microcosm of nature. With the wide and diverse varieties of wildlife to be found on these small, protected islands it can be a bucket-list item for many eco-tourists and animal lovers.
